The timer taper has a 6 hour on, 18 hour off timer.  Please unscrew the bottom of the candle and insert two AA batteries.  Screw the bottom back on until the candle comes on.  It will now stay on for 6 hours, shut off, then turn back on automatically in 18 hours.  It can be manually turned on or off by screwing and unscrewing the bottom as desired.
